The run

On 1 November 2026, Marc Basseng drove the Yangwang U9 Xtreme to 503.17 km/h on a closed section of the E11 road in Abu Dhabi. The FIA recognised the achievement in its 6 November announcement.

What the number means

The result exceeded the car’s earlier 496.22 km/h benchmark in Germany. The Guinness record categories cited by the FIA concern the highest speed achieved by a production car and an electric production car in a single-direction run. A two-way average is a different measurement.

The next questions

The headline makes the car worth investigating. The useful follow-up is how the particular vehicle, tyres, road and conditions supported the run. Compare like-for-like measurements when discussing another car, and distinguish the U9 Xtreme from the regular U9.
